Filter Replacement

When is the last time you replaced your furnace filter?

Ensuring your filter is replaced regularly goes a long way towards keeping your indoor air clean and your heating and cooling system running efficiently. Build up from dust and debris can cause your filter to become clogged which may result in allergens polluting your home and decreasing the efficiency of your system.

Why is it important to replace your filter?

Everyone has good intentions when it comes to changing their furnace filters, but sometimes life gets in the way and the filter sits in the furnace collecting dust for much longer than recommended. Replacing a dirty, clogged filter with a clean new one can lower your air conditioner’s energy consumption by 5% to 10%! In turn, keeping energy costs down while giving you the peace of mind your system will last for years to come.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I change my air filter?

There is not a certain answer for this. It depends on the number of people inside your home, whether you have smokers insides, pets. We recommend you check your filters regularly, when you see a coating of dust and dirt it is time for them to be replaced. A rough guide is:

1″ filters: Check/replace monthly
2″ filters: Check monthly/replace every 2 months
4″ filters: Check monthly/replace every 6 months
5″ filters: Check monthly/ replace every 6 months

If my filter is dirty, does that mess up my heating and cooling system?

Big time.  Let us quote the “Energy Star website” – they are part of the EPA. ”A dirty filter will slow down air flow and make the system work harder to keep you warm or cool- wasting energy. A clean filter will also prevent dust and dirt from building up in the system.”

By regularly changing your air filter you will both filter the harmful contaminants in your air, and extend the life of your heating and cooling system.  In other words –  reduced likelihood of expensive maintenance and early system failure for your heating equipment.
